Centre LGBT+ Scholarship

Graduation

Centre LGBT+ Scholarship

Centre LGBT+ is pleased to announce a $1,000.00 scholarship for a graduating high school senior attending a Centre County school (excluding SCASD who already offers this award through their Senior Scholarship Award Booklet).
This award is funded by PRIDE, Drag Bingo and other educational events that Centre LGBT+ offers to magnify LGBT+ awareness and to build a sense of LGBT+ community & support.

Candidates should be active in the LGBT+ community and interested in helping all people to:
-       Have equal civil rights
-       Fulfill their potential academically
-       Enjoy rich personal and spiritual lives
-       Cope effectively with the challenges of family, school, career, and community life.
Candidates do NOT need to plan to attend college, but should have some specific post high school goals.  Likewise, students planning to attend college do NOT need to major in a service-related field.

Each candidate needs to submit a one-two page essay and two reference letters by people familiar with their involvement with the LGBT+ community.

The one-two page essay should be written to give Centre LGBT+  more information about them:
-       What led them to being interested in the LGBT+ community?
-       How have they been positively affected by participating in the LGBT+ community?
-       Their vision for how the lives of LGBT+ people can be improved in the future.

Candidates may mention membership in classes, clubs, activities or community organizations, and how their concern for LGBT+ people has affected their participation.

The candidate should articulate any community service they have done and what hopes and plans they have after graduation.

They should specifically articulate how they hope to make a positive impact on social change for LGBT+ people.

Each candidate should articulate how they would use the funds if granted the award.

Candidates will be evaluated based on their participation in the LGBT+ community, their advocacy for LGBT+ people, and their intentions for the future.
(Candidates will not be evaluated on their GPA, family income or essay writing skills).
